Galwey House
Galwey House is a magnificent period home located in cosmopolitan Leederville, just a short walk from the vibrant café, restaurant and entertainment precincts that occupy the area. It is set in a quiet, tree line street, close to public transport, open parkland and recreation facilities and appeals to both young and young at heart.
Originally built in the late eighteen hundreds by Mr. Ernest Heinrich Lauge it functioned as the local post office and general store for the town of Leeder (modern day Leederville), until the turn of the twentieth century, when a new post office was constructed on the corner of Vincent and Oxford Streets. It then ran as a general store for some 90 years before it’s final conversion into a family home and general business premises some two decades ago.
It is a home which has been lovingly maintained and improved over the last century and incorporates the best of both pre-Federation and Art Deco design styles.
Features
Galwey House is a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom character home that features an impressive entrance hall, a choice of both formal and informal living areas and the added bonus of permission to run a small business/home office from the independent front room/s of the home.
It is a home with fabulous street appeal from its beautiful tuck pointing and heavenly dorma loft window, to its dramatic coach lights and cream picket fencing.
The interior has all the features one would expect in a majestic character home. High ceilings with ornate plaster work, lead lighting, polished timber floorboards (some of which date back to the original house of the late 1880's), two decorative fireplaces and even a claw foot bath ... whilst also having some modern luxuries such as, air conditioning, an alarm system and an alfresco dining area.
The fully reticulated gardens are simple and yet elegant. They complement the house and allow the home occupants the freedom to enjoy the easy going lifestyle that is Leederville, without the drudgery of weekly garden maintenance.
The home is centrally located in a quiet tree-lined street, close to most amenities, including schools, public transport, parks, shops and the Leederville lifestyle …including Beatty Park Leisure Centre, Lake Monger, the Luna Cinema, Leederville TAFE, the Hip-e Club and Re Store (purveyors of fine foods from around the globe) and so much more.
Renovation and Restoration
Adras Property purchased the building at the beginning of the new Millennium, as an investment and renovation project, with the view of using the two front independent rooms as offices and the rear as a sub-leased home.
Although the building was generally both structurally sound and architecturally intact, it was showing its age and in need of a cosmetic make-over both externally and internally as well as, some minor modernisation.
Adras Property became both the client and project manager for the renovation project; co-ordinating design work, legislative requirements, issuing tenders and supervising contractors as well as, dealing with the commercial and residential leasing and ultimately the sale of the property in 2007.
